Extreme Heat This Weekend

Dear Coaches and Parents --

We at ELL have been monitoring weather reports for the upcoming weekend. We know that everyone treasures their field time but also want to make sure that activities proceed in a manner that protects the health and safety of our participants. To that end:

• We have been working to move practices to earlier time slots where possible (particularly for the younger divisions).
• If any parent feels it’s best for their player to not attend, or a coach wants to cancel, we completely support them.
• To the extent practice proceeds:
o Kids should be given frequent water breaks and should be encouraged to stay hydrated.
o Consider adjusting physical activities as appropriate and allow shade time where feasible.
o Allow for alternative clothing (e.g., shorts if the team normally requires/encourages baseball pants).
o Monitor all players for signs of heat stress.
